Yanusz Gilewicz was born into an artistic family and has been devoted to painting since early childhood. His grandfather was his first art teacher and his inspiration. In Italy, Gilewicz studied Leonardo da Vinci painting methods. Working internationally, especially while in Japan, inspired him to develop a symbiotic expression of Eastern and Western cultures. As a result of myriad influences, over the years his expertise expanded to include interior designs, custom made frescos, trompe l’oeil, and decorative surface finishes. In his interior work, he is best known for his “Golden Fish Pond,” a trompe l’oeil painting on a wooden floor. This painting creates the absolutely surprising illusion of fish swimming in a pond of water. “My desire is to express mystery through art, triggering recognition within the viewer. The painting becomes the mirror reflecting the artist, beyond boundaries of race, religion, politics, economics, and language,” explains Gilewicz.
